I do not tell my pain to a friend or enemy. A friend will be sad, and the enemy will rejoice. My Lord understands best of all.
I find this to be quite interesting. In many cases the sharing of our pain with another is to receive something. We share pain for empathy or support. We want someone to come along side of us. Yet in this view, one does not share pain – not in lieu of oneself but because of the other. Perhaps as a safeguard to both friend and foe.
God is the only one who can appropriately balance the reality of pain. He is not drawn to undue sadness nor does He allow us to somehow pull Him into our despair.
