It is truly ironic that the cross – an absolute position of powerlessness – is in fact the perfect image of God’s power. All of our fights, struggles, pains and sorrows are summarized and extinguished on the cross. And we are asked to join our Christ there. Pierced. Gasping. Bleeding.
