The cross is the power of Life. It is the labor, the sacrifice, the suffering with which we can become so closely aligned with Jesus that we can feel His breath on our cheek. Find His blood on our hands. We carry the cross with Him. We can all take part with Simon – arm in arm with God incarnate – and walk the Via Dolorosa.

Will we kiss His bruised face? Will we guide His shaking legs? Will we raise Him up when He falls to the ground on the way?

Or will we deny Him. And walk away.
