“Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.”

~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship

When I stand in judgment of my brother, I immediately stand free from sin in my own eyes. Have I not done the same thing? Have I not had the same thoughts?

The weight of my sins is laborious upon my back. But shall I turn my face away from the reality of my own burden to gaze with indignation at the slight of sins of another?

Wake me up, My God! I am the sinner. I am the one who turned away from You. Who told You I hated You. How can I judge my brother knowing what I have done to You?
