trasmutare:

The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.

Soren Kierkegaard

God is immutable. He does not change in His essence. Or His being. Or His mind. He is forever fully whole. Fully perfect. He is perfect resonance.

Yet we pray. Why do we pray when God doesn’t change? We pray so that we may alight ourselves with Him. There is never a question as to whether God is acting. God is moving. God is doing. He is always acting in His perfection. The question is in what way will we be participating in His movement? Will we run counter to Him? Or will we lose ourselves in Him and in His will?

Our prayer brings us face to face with this question. And with ourselves.
