orthodoxgladness:

church candle: it is a symbol of our prayer burning before the Lord, His Most Pure Mother, holy saints of God. Candles are lit from one another, burning, and, having melted the bottom of it, put it in the candlestick’s nest.

I never understood the meaning of candles when I was younger. They were light in the darkness. This was both a reality and a metaphor. Yet it goes much further. Every candle can be a prayer. The whisper of my desire before God for another. My deep connection between God and my brother. And the light glows before God as my prayer flows from my heart.

And the light shines in the darkness. And the darkness did not overcome it.
