orthodoxgladness:

He who accomplishes a work that is pleasing to God will surely be tempted, for every good work either precedes or follows temptation, and what is done for God’s sake cannot be firm unless it is tempted. – Abba Dorotheus of Gaza

The encountering if the Devil is most acute when we are looking at Christ. It is in this place where his seething anger will rage. He will do all in his power to try to accomplish one thing: take your eyes off of the cross.

Friends – see only Christ on the cross. Do not avert your gaze.
