“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains.”
—
C.S. Lewis
What do I remember about the pleasures of my past? The joys that I have experienced. I do remember some surely. The beauty of a touch. The movement of the water at night. The first cry of my child. But, dear God, do I remember my suffering so much more. Screaming in my bed. The feeling of life stopping all around me in my agony. Pools of blood. Crying for years at the sound of a name. Praying over the body of a friend dying.
These I remember. Here I find the Word of God. Here I find who I am. And who You are.
