In honor of the 21 Coptic Christians who were beheaded by Islamic State militants in February 2015. The name of Jesus was the last word on their lips and like the early church martyrs, they entrusted themselves to the One who would receive them soon after.
Jesus said, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
When Jesus called us to be His disciples. To be His brothers and sisters. He called us to die. First to die to ourselves – our sinful selves that have held us hostage. Enslaved. Through Him we are free. And we are free to answer His call to the other meaning of our death – the giving up of our physical bodies to His will. Some will give their lives to service. Others to prayer. Others to sharing the Word. And some, those of the greatest faith, will be called to give their very lives. With the name of Jesus on their lips they join Him in His crucifixion. And they will join Him in His resurrection. Praise be to God for the faith of His children.
They stand so the rest of us can also stand. They die so that the rest of us can also die.
Pray for us my brothers.
