The chief end of our life is to live in communion with God. To this end the Son of God became incarnate, in order to return us to this divine communion, which was lost by the fall into sin. Through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we enter into communion with the Father and thus attain our purpose.
– St. Theophan the Recluse
How many of us can truly say why we are here? What is the reason that we are here rather than not here at all? Do we have a purpose?
Without God the meaning is lost in an array of self-defined suppositions. Ill-conceived hopes. Without God I have myself…and nothing else. And in having nothing else, I find I do not even have myself.
All is lost. All is meaningless. All is worthless.
But to know God. To know the Love poured out. To know God made flesh. Here reality is opened as a curtain torn back reveals the light of the day. And in that light we see ourselves for the first time.
We see who we really are.
